GARY WAR

On March 2nd, the Divan Orange will welcome an evening that will have repercussions on Montreal as we know it: Gary War, Technical Kidman and Femminielli. Ghostly rhythms under the sign of mysticism; for the lovers of out-of-body experiences. The tickets will be 12$ at the door / 10$ presale. Transplanted to Brooklyn’s label Sacred Bones (Amen Dunes, Woods, Zola Jesus), Gary War is a UFO of dense pondering – from psychedelic new dimensions to cutting edge garage pop textured with keyboards, often futuristic, often new-wave, definitively audacious and constantly pouring into experiment. With two complete albums to his name, New Raytheonport (including a perfectly saturated cover of Alan Parsons Project’s Eye In The Sky) and Horribles Parade, Gary War confirms his rising fame in 2011 playing with the inimitable John Maus and now greeting Montreal for the first time. His third record is set to be released sometime in the next year.

Technical Kidman’s ceremonies extend to the least suspicious places of the city since the release of its first eponymous EP in September 2010. Marked with some emotional affiliations with the Pop Montreal festival and many medias, the trio with the magnetic / optical / glycerian « pop » is now producing in the aim of a future record. The music of Berdardino Femminielli was compared – with good reasons- with the soundtrack of a future « softcore erotica” by renowned Weird Canada. The 80’s flavor, floating atmospheres and all the cosmic tales surrounding his keyboards contribute widely to make the artist a unique phenomenon of the Los Discos Enfantasmes’ label.

FLOW CHILD

Le tier de feu Pop Winds, Kyle Jukka, se réincarne ici en Flow Child, projet solo électronique ambiant et vaporeux, fidèle à la vague néo-psychédélique tropicale. Avec trois albums sous ce nom, une tournée avec Moonface, et faisant aujourd’hui partie de l’étrange famille d’Arbutus Records, Flow Child gagne rapidement du terrain vers l’épanchement de l’esprit collectif local envers une musique tout-à-fait particulière. Technical Kidman lançait son premier EP éponyme il y a un peu plus d’un an. Après plusieurs concerts dans les endroits les plus vibrants de la ville et une seconde année à se faire dorloter par Pop Montréal, de nouveaux titres voient aujourd’hui le jour, annonçant un culte grandissant pour la densité contrôlée et les performances amplifiées.

De Québec à Montréal, Pascale Mercier aka Mathématique (aussi à la batterie de LEAP) crée de l’ambiance partout où elle passe. Sous son électro 8-bit doté d’une touche d’innocence, Mathématique dévoile l’obscurité lors de prestations où sa musique flirte avec le mystère. Parmi les artistes qu’a cotoyé le projet : Humans, Diamond Rings, Misteur Valaire et Xiu Xiu.

SOLIDS

+ THE SOBER DAWN + TECHNICAL KIDMAN @ Casa del Popolo // 29 juillet 2011

Dans le cadre du MEG Montréal, Solids prend part à une soirée… (non, on ne dira pas « solide ») …épique à la Casa del Popolo. Avec The Sober Dawn et Technical Kidman. Les billets sont en vente au prix de 10$ le soir même. Une présentation de Turbo Productions en collaboration avec le MEG Montréal Festival.

Solids frôle le post-rock/punk alternatif depuis 2009 seulement et déjà, le duo a partagé la scène avec des sommités comme Obits, CLAASS, We Are Wolves, Bloodshot Bill, Amanita Bloom et compagnie. Xavier Germain Poitras et Louis Guillemette, aussi dans Expectorated Sequence, font beaucoup avec pas grand-chose : une guitare, une batterie et du vocal pour arriver à ébranler sur un premier EP, Generic Dogs, disponible via Machette Records.

« Au-dessus de ses affaires » depuis 2006, le trio a passé par une panoplie de noms avant de finalement s’arrêter sur The Sober Dawn pour mieux continuer de rocker la scène locale alternative. Depuis, une série de concerts et une invitation au Pouzza Fest 2011 ont prouvé qu’ils relèvent avec brio le défi qu’ils se sont donnés : ramener le « rock » dans « punk-rock ».

La pop glycérienne de Technical Kidman revient tapisser les murs de la Casa del Popolo; cette fois avec de nouvelles chansons. Depuis la sortie d’un premier EP en septembre dernier, le trio délivre les surprises au compte-goutte et force la perfection dans sa sphère musicale. Un goût de début d’été pour Passwords et TK

Le 19 mai dernier était une soirée chaude et humide, bien comme on les aime dans l’antre du Divan Orange à l’aube de l’été. Tout le monde -ou presque- était là, ceux qui ne l’étaient pas se maudissent, Passwords et Technical Kidman ont rocké la place. Le journaliste Antoine Leclerc et son photographe Clovis-Alexandre Desvarieux de danstesoreilles y étaient… on les a vu partir, satisfaction aux lèvres, puis ils ont pondu un papier.

Passwords fait parler tout le grand Montréal ces derniers temps! Nouveau chouchou de la scène locale, le groupe lançait un premier album éponyme sous l’étiquette Mercy le 26 avril dernier et apparaissait dans les pages de maintes publications culturelles, aussi bien anglophones que francophones. Formé d’Emmanuel Ethier (Coeur de pirate, Jimmy Hunt), de Thomas L’Allier, de Maxime Castellon (Jimmy Hunt), et de Carmel Scurti-Belley, Passwords amène un vent de rock indé qui laisse oublier la division de Clues; une saveur folk et un air de nostalgie en plus. De la profondeur des compositions et des influences subtilement marquées, on retient le talent des musiciens et leur pertinence au cœur de la relève musicale. Le groupe participera à l’édition 2011 d’Osheaga.

Le trio hypnotique Technical Kidman revient en force avec de nouvelles compositions et un bagage de concerts partagés avec, entre-autres, Suuns, Braids, Pom Pom War, The Death Set, Adam & the Amethysts et Pat Jordache. Passwords is making all the great Montreal talk lately! New darling of the local scene, the group released a debut album under the label Mercy on April 26, and appeared in the pages of many cultural publications, both English and French. Formed with Emmanuel Ethier (Coeur de pirate, Jimmy Hunt), Thomas L’Allier, Maxime Castellon (Jimmy Hunt) and Carmel Scurti-Belley, Passwords brings a wind of indie rock that lets forget the division of Clues; a folk flavor and an air of nostalgia on top. POM POM WAR

+ SUPERFOSSILPOWER + TECHNICAL KIDMAN  @ O PATRO VYS // 1er décembre 2010

Montréal, le 22 novembre 2010 – Décembre commence avec Pom Pom War pour maître, le soir du 1er sur la scène de l’O Patro Vys. Avec superfossilpower et Technical Kidman en ouverture. Le collage de mélodies synth-garage et de guitares post-punk trash de Pom Pom War frappe sauvagement la scène montréalaise depuis sa formation en 2007. Le beatmaker et chanteur Nicholas Dostie secondé de sa sœur Caroline (ex-HighTops) prennent les armes, aux commandes vocales du bataillon complété de Jonathan Bouchard à la guitare-tronçonneuse et Roberto Parada à la batterie anti aérienne. Le EP Allez!! Prenez leurs armes!! aura bientôt un an, mais la vieillesse ne colle pas au groupe pour qui performance scénique est synonyme d’outrecuidance.

« superfossilpower is tyler k. rauman », nous laisse comprendre le MySpace de l’artiste qui n’aime pas les majuscules. Inspirée par les accélérateurs de particules, les automates cellulaires, l’alchimie et les couchers de soleil tropicaux, la musique de superfossilpower possède le mystère et la profondeur qui en constituent l’attrait, mais sait aussi se faire hypnotique pour nous accrocher à un niveau cérébral dont le fonctionnement reste à déterminer. Un indie-électronique dont les effets à long terme sont encore inconnus mais qui, à court terme, opère avec une précision garante de qualité.

Technical Kidman joue la carte de la transcendance un peu partout à Montréal par les temps qui courent. Surfant sur la vague de popularité qui découle du lancement de son premier EP (éponyme) à l’automne, le groupe offrira une nouvelle performance d’une intensité sauvage et calculée, à l’instar de la musique unique qu’il propose et qui est devenu reconnaissable entre mille par son magnétisme, sa puissance et son sens aigu de la structure. The collage of the synth-garage melodies with the post-punk trash guitars of Pom Pom War wildly strikes the Montreal scene since its formation in 2007. The beatmaker and singer Nicholas Dostie assisted by his sister Caroline (ex-HighTops) takes the weapons, at the vocal commands of the battalion completed by Jonathan Bouchard at the chainsaw-guitar and Roberto Parada at the non smooth battery. The EP Allez!! Prenez leurs armes!! will soon celebrate his one year anniversary, but oldness isn’t relative to the group for which scenic performance is synonymous with impertinence.

« superfossilpower is tyler k. rauman », on the MySpace page of the artist, makes it clear that he doesn’t like capital letters. Inspired by the particle accelerators, the automats cellular, alchemy and tropical sunsets, the music of superfossilpower has the mystery and the depth which constitute the attraction of it, but can also hypnotise on a cerebral level whose operation remains to be determined. An indie-electronic of which the long-term effects are still unknown but which, in the short run, operates with a precision promising quality.

Technical Kidman plays the transcendent attitude everywhere in Montreal these times. Surfing on the wave of popularity rose from the launching of its first EP (eponymous) this autumn, the group will offer a new performance of a wild and calculated intensity, following the example of his particular music that became recognizable between thousands due to his magnetism, his power and his acute structure.
